BANGKOK, Dec 8 :Thailand on Monday confirmed that its military carried out airstrikes along the border zone shared with Cambodia as tensions between the two neighbours flared once again. The Defence Ministry said the operation was initiated in response to what it described as renewed “security threats” and unusual military activity observed on the Cambodian side of the frontier.

According to officials, the strikes were conducted in a controlled manner and targeted specific areas identified as potential staging points for cross-border incidents. The Ministry stressed that the action was taken to protect Thai forces stationed in the region and to prevent any escalation that could endanger civilians living near the disputed stretches of the border.

Thai authorities have increased surveillance and deployed additional troops to maintain stability, while assuring the public that the situation remains under close watch. The government said it remains committed to peace and urged Cambodia to engage in dialogue to ease the rising tension.

Officials added that diplomatic channels remain open and that Thailand is prepared to work with Phnom Penh to ensure that longstanding border disagreements do not spiral into wider conflict. The Defence Ministry reiterated that safeguarding national sovereignty will remain its top priority.
