Srinagar, 11 December 2025: A CRPF trooper died by suicide late Wednesday night while on naka duty at Karpura Brane in the Nishat area on the outskirts of Srinagar. The deceased has been identified as Sujeet Kumar, a resident of Jharkhand, serving with the 54 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force.
Officials said the incident occurred during routine naka duty when the trooper allegedly shot himself with his service rifle. Fellow personnel rushed to the spot after hearing the gunshot and shifted him to a nearby medical facility, where he was declared dead on arrival.
The area was immediately secured, and senior officers of CRPF and local police reached the site to assess the situation. A case has been registered, and an investigation has been initiated to determine the circumstances that led to the incident.
Police said all angles are being examined as part of the inquiry. The body will be handed over to the family after completion of medico-legal formalities.
The incident has caused shock among the trooper’s colleagues, who described him as disciplined and dedicated. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
