AIIMS New Delhi has initiated India’s first clinical trial of the Supernova stent, a next‑generation device designed to improve treatment outcomes for patients suffering from acute ischemic stroke. The trial marks a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to advance neurointerventional care and expand access to cutting‑edge medical technologies.
According to AIIMS, the Supernova stent is engineered to restore blood flow in blocked brain vessels with greater precision and safety. The clinical trial will evaluate its performance, efficacy and procedural advantages compared to existing devices used in stroke management.
Experts at the institute noted that timely intervention with advanced stent systems can substantially reduce disability and improve recovery prospects for stroke patients. The introduction of the Supernova stent into clinical evaluation reflects India’s growing capability in adopting and assessing high‑end medical innovations.
The trial is expected to generate critical data that will guide future adoption of the device in hospitals across the country, potentially strengthening India’s stroke care infrastructure and improving patient outcomes.
