Jammu, December 18: Panic gripped Jagti Mini Township on Wednesday after a man climbed a telecom tower to protest an alleged grievance related to the allotment of a shop, officials said.
According to eyewitnesses, the man scaled the tower in the morning hours, drawing the attention of local residents who immediately informed the authorities. Police teams rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area to prevent any untoward incident.
The protester reportedly claimed that his concerns over shop allotment had remained unaddressed despite repeated representations, forcing him to take the extreme step to draw attention to his issue.
Senior police officials, along with local administration and rescue teams, engaged the man in dialogue and appealed to him to come down safely. Efforts were also made to reassure him that his grievance would be looked into through proper channels.
After hours of persuasion, the man was safely brought down from the tower without any injury. Authorities said the situation was handled peacefully, and further action would be taken to examine the allotment issue raised by the individual.
