Today the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh adjourned the hearing in the Public Safety Act (PSA) detention case of Doda MLA Mehraj Malik to December 27, 2025. The matter was taken up in court, and after hearing arguments from one side, the bench decided to hear the remaining arguments and submissions on the next scheduled date before moving toward any final judgment.
Mehraj Malik, a legislator from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the only representative of his party in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, was detained under the PSA on September 8 this year after an incident involving alleged disorderly conduct and comments against district officials.
Supporters of the MLA in Doda continue to watch the legal proceedings closely, with many expressing hope that the December 27 hearing will bring the case closer to a resolution. The petition before the court includes a habeas corpus challenge to Malik’s preventive detention, and his legal team has also sought compensation for what they describe as a wrongful curtailment of his personal liberty.
This adjournment marks yet another delay in a case that has already seen multiple postponements, keeping alive political and public debate over the use of stringent preventive detention laws against an elected representative.
