New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs has approved the promotion of 24 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers of the AGMUT cadre to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) with effect from January 1, 2026, or from the date of assumption of charge, whichever is later. The promotion comes following the recommendations of the Screening Committee in its meeting held on December 8, 2025.
The officers promoted include:

The officers promoted are currently serving in various postings under the AGMUT cadre, which includes Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram, and Union Territories. Their elevation to the DIG rank is expected to strengthen senior-level leadership and operational efficiency in policing and administration across the cadre.
Officials stated that the promotions have been granted after the officers completed the required service period and fulfilled eligibility criteria. The specific postings and assignments of the newly promoted DIGs will be issued separately based on administrative requirements.
The promotions reflect the government’s effort to bolster law enforcement leadership and enhance policing capabilities in sensitive and strategically important regions under the AGMUT cadre. The officers will assume their new responsibilities at the beginning of the new year, ushering in a new phase of administrative and operational duties at the senior command level.
