New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday paid rich tributes to the brave soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces on the occasion of Vijay Diwas, commemorating India’s historic victory in the 1971 war.
Saluting the courage, sacrifice and valour of the armed forces, the Prime Minister said the nation will always remain grateful to the soldiers who defended India’s sovereignty and played a decisive role in the liberation of Bangladesh.
“On Vijay Diwas, we remember the bravery of our armed forces and reaffirm our gratitude to those who sacrificed their lives for the nation,” PM Modi said in a message.
Vijay Diwas is observed every year on December 16 to mark the surrender of Pakistani forces in 1971, a landmark moment in India’s military history. Various events and tributes were organised across the country to honour war heroes and veterans.
