Guwahati/Rajouri, December 20–21: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a two-day visit to Assam to inaugurate and lay the foundation for multiple development projects worth approximately ₹15,600 crore, aimed at boosting infrastructure, healthcare, industrial growth, and socio-economic development in the state.
On Saturday, PM Modi inaugurated the new terminal building at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati. The nature-themed terminal, inspired by Assam’s biodiversity, will enhance passenger experience and improve connectivity in the Northeast, with a capacity to handle up to 1.3 crore travelers annually.
During his visit, the Prime Minister also participated in several project launches and public events, highlighting Assam’s increasing role in national development and emphasizing infrastructure expansion, employment generation, and economic growth.
On Sunday, he is scheduled to dedicate multiple cancer care hospitals across the state and lay the foundation for seven new cancer hospitals under the Assam Cancer Care Foundation at locations including Dibrugarh, Kokrajhar, Barpeta, Darrang, Tezpur, Lakhimpur, and Jorhat.
Additionally, PM Modi will lay the foundation for a brownfield ammonia-urea fertiliser plant in Namrup, a ₹10,600-crore project designed to boost fertiliser production, reduce import dependence, generate jobs, and support industrial development in Assam and neighbouring regions.
The visit also includes tributes at Swahid Smarak Kshetra in Boragaon to honour martyrs of the Assam Movement, reflecting the state’s unique socio-political heritage. Alongside developmental initiatives, PM Modi’s engagements involve public speeches and interactions, emphasizing governance, national security, and the government’s development agenda.
This visit underscores a comprehensive approach combining infrastructure, healthcare, industrial investment, and cultural homage, highlighting the government’s focus on the growth and development of Assam and the broader Northeast region.
