New Delhi, December 20, 2025: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast dense to very dense fog across several states including Bihar, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, with other regions also likely to see widespread foggy conditions today. Alongside the fog, cold wave conditions are expected in parts of Interior Karnataka and Telangana as the winter weather pattern intensifies.

In the national capital region, the IMD has issued an orange alert for dense fog, significantly reducing visibility on roads and disrupting normal movement in many areas. Early morning sightings showed thick fog blanketing large parts of Delhi‑NCR, making travel challenging for commuters.

The air quality in Delhi‑NCR remains in the ‘very poor’ category, with the Central Pollution Control Board reporting average Air Quality Index (AQI) figures around 380, and several areas nearing or entering the ‘severe’ pollution range. Elevated pollution levels pose health risks, especially for children, the elderly and those with respiratory issues, prompting authorities to urge residents to limit outdoor activities and take precautions.

The dense fog has also impacted transport services, with low visibility affecting flight operations and leading to delays and cancellations at Indira Gandhi International Airport. Road travel has been slowed on major routes, and rail services have seen disruptions in northern states due to the weather conditions.

Officials are monitoring the situation closely, and citizens are advised to stay updated with weather alerts and air quality reports throughout the day as the foggy conditions and pollution are expected to persist, affecting daily life and travel across the region.
