SHOPIAN: The District Project Management Unit ( DPMU), Shopian, Consultancy partners of Mission Directorate, JJM and Jal Shakti Department today organised a hand holding/ awareness programme on Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) at Auditorium Hall of Imtiyaz Memorial Govt. Degree College Shopian, here.
On the occasion, it was informed that Jal Jeevan Mission is a Central Government sponsored programme with the mission of providing piped drinking water supply to all rural households by 2024.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Yar Ali Khan presided over the programme as the chief guest.
On the occasion, the ADC highlighted the importance of Pani Samitis and laid emphasis on encouraging the local communities to take over the rural water supply system for operation and maintenance.
He also laid emphasis on officers to strictly adhere to the laid guidelines and maintain the highest level of transparency and accountability in the implementation process.
He exhorted the officers to put in coordinated efforts to achieve the desired results and meet the timelines targeted for the completion of tasks at all levels.
Meanwhile, it was given out that infrastructure is being developed to ensure portable tap water connection to every household in the district.
Chief Chemist, Kashmir, Jan Masood while speaking on the occasion said that it is the responsibility of all the people to save the water bodies and make judicious use of water.
Other speakers raised awareness on a wide variety of JJM Components.
A demonstration programme on operation of Field Test kits for water quality check was also done on the occasion by the technicians of the Jal Shakti department for the benefit of the audience.
Later, felicitation certificates were distributed among those officers and officials who showed outstanding performance towards the implementation of the mission.
