Mumbai: Megastar Amitabh Bachchan is all set to return with a brand new season of his iconic game show, Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC).
On Tuesday, the makers unveiled a new promo for the show’s upcoming 17th season, sparking excitement among fans.
Amitabh’s son and actor Abhishek Bachchan also joined in the buzz, resharing the promo and calling his father “boss.”
“Boss!! He’s back,” Abhishek wrote in his post.
KBC Season 17 is scheduled to premiere on August 11 on Sony TV.
Recently, the show marked a major milestone—25 years since its debut. Kaun Banega Crorepati first aired on July 3, 2000, and quickly became a cultural phenomenon and one of India’s most beloved television programs.
To commemorate the occasion, Amitabh Bachchan, who has hosted the show since its inception, penned an emotional note.
Reflecting on the journey, the 81-year-old actor shared on social media:
“T 5430 – Today, 3rd July 2025, as I prepare for this year’s season of KBC, the team reminds me that it was on this very day in 2000 that the first episode was aired. 25 years of KBC!”
In a heartfelt blog post, Bachchan wrote about how he was unaware of the milestone until the team informed him on set:
“Jaldi so jao kaam pr jaana hai; kaam bhi jaldi aarambh hoga, samay pe jaana hai (Go to sleep early, have to go to work; work starts early too, must be on time)… On shoot for KBC, July 3, 2025, 5:30 PM… didn’t realize it. Just found out from the team—today marks 25 years since KBC first aired. Goodness… 25 years have passed, and it feels like no time at all.”
KBC began as the Indian adaptation of the British game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, and marked Amitabh Bachchan’s debut on television—reviving his career and redefining Indian television.
More than just a quiz show, KBC has touched countless lives with its emotional contestant stories and Bachchan’s iconic phrase, “Lock kiya jaye?” — making it a household favorite for generations.
