Jammu: A man who had been on the run for 26 years in a rash driving case that allegedly caused a person’s death has been arrested by Jammu Police after being deported from the United Kingdom, officials said on Wednesday.
The accused, identified as Naveen Kousha, a resident of Ropar, Punjab, was wanted in connection with a 1999 case registered under Sections 304-A (causing death by rash driving), 279 (rash driving), and 337 (causing injuries) of the Ranbir Penal Code at the Jhajjar Kotli Police Station, officials said.
After he absconded in 1999, a warrant under Section 512 of the CrPC was issued against him by the Court of Munsiff, Jammu, they added. During his time as a fugitive, Kousha had settled abroad and obtained permanent citizenship in the UK.
Following persistent efforts and coordinated action by the Jhajjar Kotli Police, with assistance from multiple agencies, the accused was apprehended upon his deportation from the UK to India.
