New Delhi: Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani congratulated young Indian chess prodigy R. Praggnanandhaa on qualifying for the Grand Chess Tour (GCT) Final in Brazil this September, following his runner-up finish at the 2025 Sinquefield Cup.

“Heartiest congratulations to R. Praggnanandhaa on qualifying for the Grand Chess Tour Final in Brazil! What an achievement! At just 19, your journey inspires millions of young Indians to dream big and play bold. Bharat is proud of you,” Adani wrote on X.

The 19-year-old will compete in São Paulo alongside top players like USA’s Levon Aronian and Fabiano Caruana, and France’s Maxime Vachier-Lagrave. Praggnanandhaa won the Romania leg of the GCT 2025 and finished third in Poland. The final, scheduled from September 27 to October 3, will feature classical, rapid, and blitz formats.

Praggnanandhaa aims to become the first Indian to win the Grand Chess Tour title, currently held by France’s Alireza Firouzja.

Earlier in July, Indian Grandmasters Arjun Erigaisi and Praggnanandhaa finished sixth and seventh, respectively, at the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam in Las Vegas, where Levon Aronian defeated Hans Niemann 1.5-0.5 in the final. Praggnanandhaa also secured a 1.5-0.5 victory over Wesley in his latest match, while Caruana dominated Arjun with a 2-0 win, following another 0-2 loss to Magnus Carlsen.
