Srinagar, Nov 27: Senior National Conference leader Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi has said that he was not invited to the party’s working committee meeting held in Srinagar, marking the first time in 23 years that he has been excluded from the deliberations.
Ruhullah, who has served as a member of the NC’s top decision-making body since 2002, expressed surprise at the development. He stated that this was the first occasion in over two decades when he was not asked to attend the meeting, which traditionally brings together senior leaders to discuss organisational and political matters.
The working committee session, chaired by party president Dr. Farooq Abdullah and attended by vice president Omar Abdullah along with other senior leaders, focused on reviewing the current political situation in Jammu and Kashmir and charting the party’s future course.
Party sources said the meeting was aimed at strengthening grassroots presence and preparing for upcoming electoral challenges. However, Ruhullah’s absence has drawn attention, given his longstanding role in the committee and his prominence within the party.
Observers noted that the development highlights internal dynamics within the NC at a time when the party is seeking to consolidate its position in the Valley. Ruhullah’s statement has sparked discussion among political circles about the reasons behind his exclusion.
