Facebook Adds AI Assistant to Help Users Find Better Matches
Facebook Dating may not be the most popular platform yet, but Meta is betting on AI to change that. The company has introduced a new AI-powered assistant designed to help users find matches more efficiently, while also reducing what it calls “swipe fatigue” — the endless scrolling common on dating apps.
The assistant helps narrow down search results by understanding user preferences in detail. Instead of sticking to basic filters like height or education, users can provide prompts describing the kind of partner they’re seeking. The AI then studies these inputs to suggest the most relevant matches. The feature will initially roll out in the US and Canada, where it will appear under the Matches tab.
Meta is already using its AI technology across apps like WhatsApp, and the company believes adding it to Facebook Dating will simplify the matchmaking process. Alongside the assistant, a “Meet Cute” feature will also launch, delivering surprise algorithm-driven matches to users weekly. Participation is optional, and users can opt out anytime.
Despite this update, Facebook Dating hasn’t gained much traction compared to rivals like Tinder, Hinge, or OkCupid. However, Meta is hoping its AI assistant — unlike competitors’ premium-only features — will attract more users to the platform.
