Srinagar, Nov 30 — The Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) has criticised the National Conference (NC) for passing a resolution that, according to them, fails to address the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s pre-1953 constitutional status.
AIP leaders said the resolution adopted by the NC is incomplete and does not reflect the aspirations of the people who continue to demand restoration of the state’s special position. They argued that silence on the pre-1953 status weakens the political struggle and undermines the sacrifices made over decades.
The party maintained that the NC, which has historically championed autonomy, should have reaffirmed its commitment to the pre-1953 arrangement, under which Jammu and Kashmir enjoyed greater constitutional safeguards and autonomy within the Union of India.
AIP leaders further alleged that the NC’s resolution was politically motivated and aimed at consolidating its position ahead of upcoming elections, rather than genuinely addressing the concerns of the people.
The debate highlights continuing divisions among regional parties over the future of Jammu and Kashmir’s constitutional identity, with AIP pressing for a stronger stand on autonomy and restoration of rights.
