Mumbai: Actor Akshay Kumar has strongly condemned the use of artificial intelligence to create fake videos featuring him.
In an Instagram story, Akshay shared a firm statement after coming across AI-generated clips of a film trailer portraying him as Maharishi Valmiki.
“I recently came across some AI-generated videos of a film trailer showing me in the role of Maharishi Valmiki. I want to clarify that these are completely fake and created using AI. What’s worse is that some news channels pick them up as ‘news’ without verifying whether they’re real or morphed. At a time when misleading content is being rapidly produced with manipulative AI, I sincerely request media houses to verify information before reporting,” he wrote.
His reaction comes amid growing concern in Bollywood over misuse of celebrities’ identities online. Recently, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, and Karan Johar approached the court seeking protection of their personality rights—including their name, image, voice, photographs, and performances—from unauthorized digital exploitation. The Delhi High Court also criticized the unauthorized use of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s persona, noting that such misuse without consent causes not just financial harm but also damages dignity and reputation.
On the professional front, Akshay was last seen in Subhash Kapoor’s Jolly LLB 3, co-starring Arshad Warsi. The actors reprised their iconic roles as rival lawyers, with Huma Qureshi, Amrita Rao, Seema Biswas, and Gajraj Rao also featuring in pivotal roles. The film released in theatres on September 19, 2025.
