SRINAGAR: The Cultural, Seminars and Debates Committee of Amar Singh College, Cluster University Srinagar, in collaboration with NSS, ELC, and NCC units, today organised a series of events to commemorate the 150th anniversary of ‘Vande Mataram’—the song that ignited India’s national awakening.

The celebrations were held in the college auditorium and began with a joint inaugural session featuring a special morning assembly and a soulful rendition of Vande Mataram. The programme also highlighted the song’s historical origins and its profound national significance.

Addressing the gathering, Principal Prof. (Dr.) Aijaz Ahmad Hakak said that such events play a vital role in fostering patriotic spirit and cultural unity among students.

The day-long programme featured five concurrent technical sessions, including an Inter-Collegiate and Inter-School Debate on Patriotism and Unity in Contemporary India, an Essay Writing Competition on Vande Mataram: Song of National Awakening, a Slogan Writing Competition titled Voice of the Nation: Vande Mataram, an On-the-Spot Painting Competition on Unity in Diversity, and a Quiz Competition on Patriotism and National Unity. Students from various colleges across Srinagar district enthusiastically participated in the events.

The programme concluded with a valedictory session, during which participants and winners were felicitated with certificates of appreciation.
