Alexa Plus is the new AI-powered assistant that Amazon unveiled in February and now it is coming to a small number of Echo users.
Amazon unveiled the much delayed Alexa AI in February this year and was quick to point out the new assistant will have more features but also come for a monthly fee. Alexa Plus as the company calls it, has rolled out for select Echo devices recently, giving them a closer look at the new AI-powered assistant from Amazon.
However, if you thought the paid version will have all features available from day one, your wait will go on for a little longer.
Alexa Plus Is Here But Does It Work?
The AI-powered Alexa is available but only a smart number of users are able to access it for now. Reports also say Amazon has clearly highlighted what works and doesn’t with Alexa Plus, including the obvious features like ordering items using voice.
Another report says Amazon is taking it slow with these rollouts and wants to make sure the features meet its standard for a public release. As for what Alexa AI can do right now, Amazon says you can book an Uber, draft email (if you really need to) and search for products.
Alexa AI Plus is a paid service but the company is giving people the choice to try out the new version with their existing Prime membership which makes it a better deal for the money.
Amazon is bringing the Alexa AI Plus version for $19.99 (Rs 1,720 approx) per month, but for Prime members, who pay $14.99 (Rs 1,290 approx) per month, they get the new AI avatar of Alexa and these new features for free, bundled with their membership.
We still don’t know when Amazon will extend its support for Alexa AI to countries like India. Having said that, reports say the new AI Alexa is forcing Amazon to change its privacy policy for voice recordings. Reports say Amazon will stop processing your voice recordings locally and send them to its cloud server for further actions.
