Kochi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday lauded India’s economic progress under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging citizens to contribute wholeheartedly to elevate the nation to the forefront globally in every field. However, he expressed disappointment that Kerala “remains” where it was 11 years ago, attributing the state’s stagnation to Communist policies.
Addressing the Manorama News Conclave 2025, Shah highlighted the contrast between the current government and previous administrations, noting India’s historical struggle with economic instability.
“During Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s leadership, India ranked 11th in the world economy. The Congress government’s only achievement in its 10 years was ensuring it did not fall to 12th,” he said.
Shah pointed out that over the past 11 years, under Modi, India has risen from the 11th to the fourth-largest economy globally.
“Until we reach the pinnacle and build a truly great India, no one has the right to rest. When the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav was celebrated, Modi Ji set a vision that, between the 75th and 100th years of independence, all 1.4 billion citizens must strive to make India the leader in every field worldwide,” he added.
His remarks come as the US recently imposed an additional 25% tariff on Indian goods over continued purchases of Russian oil, a move expected to impact sectors like textiles, marine products, and leather exports.
Shah further stated, “From the standpoint of peace and development, the 11 years of Modi Ji’s governance will be remembered in golden letters in the nation’s history.”
Yet, he regretted, “While India has surged ahead, Kerala remains where it was 11 years ago. The state has immense potential, but growth has been held back by the stagnation of communist ideology. I hope that in the coming years, through the exercise of their voting rights, the people of Kerala will actively join India’s journey of national development.”
