New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday hailed the Next-Gen GST reforms as a testament to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s unwavering commitment to serve the poor, youth, farmers, and women, as the new tax structure came into effect nationwide. He added that the reforms would accelerate India’s growth on its journey to becoming the world’s most prosperous nation.
“The #NextGenGSTReforms reflect PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji’s steely resolve to serve the poor, youth, farmers, and women,” Shah said in a series of posts on X, in both English and Hindi, using the hashtag ‘#GSTBachatUtsav’.
Shah emphasized that the reforms would increase the income of the middle class by creating new opportunities and boosting savings. The steep reduction in GST rates on daily essentials, healthcare products, electronic appliances, and educational items will enhance disposable income and encourage greater savings.
Highlighting the reforms’ significance, Shah called them a gift from the Modi government to the mothers and sisters of the nation on the auspicious occasion of Navratri, which begins Monday.
“PM Modi’s promise of GST reform has been implemented across the country starting today, with historic reductions on more than 390 goods,” he noted.
The Home Minister said sectors such as food and household items, home building materials, automobiles, agriculture, services, toys, sports and handicrafts, education, medical and health products, and insurance will see unprecedented relief, bringing joy to citizens and boosting their savings.
With GST reduced to zero on several dairy products and significant cuts on everyday items like soap, toothpaste, hair oil, and shampoo, the reforms are expected to bring happiness to every household.
“From zero GST on life insurance, health insurance, senior citizen policies, 33 life-saving drugs, and diagnostic kits, to minimal GST on oxygen, surgical instruments, medical, dental, and veterinary devices, these reforms will generate historic growth in citizens’ savings,” Shah added.
Farmers are reportedly delighted with GST cuts on agricultural equipment and fertilizers, and vehicle buyers will also benefit.
“This GST reform will further promote self-reliance. Citizens are encouraged to adopt indigenous products in their daily lives,” Shah said.
