Guwahati: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi should apologise for the “abuses” directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during the ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Bihar.

Shah alleged that Gandhi’s politics has “stooped to the lowest level” with what he termed the “Ghuspetiya Bachao Yatra (Save Infiltrators Yatra).”
“Rahul Gandhi should apologise if he has any shame left. The country is watching him and his party with disgust,” Shah remarked after inaugurating the new Brahmaputra wing of the Raj Bhawan in Guwahati.

BJP leaders had earlier criticised Gandhi after a purported video from Darbhanga showed an unidentified individual using an expletive against Modi from the stage, shortly after Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav departed for Muzaffarpur on motorcycles.

“The yatra is aimed at protecting Congress’ vote bank. But in a democracy, elections are the soul of the nation. How can the country remain safe if infiltrators are allowed to pollute the system?” Shah asked.
He further said, “Congress politics is negative and has crossed all limits with abuses hurled at the Prime Minister and his late mother.”

Shah added that Modi is respected worldwide and asserted, “No amount of abuse can stop the lotus from blooming.”

During his Assam visit, Shah inaugurated the Brahmaputra wing of Raj Bhawan, calling it “historic” and symbolic of the Northeast’s transformation from struggle to the vision of ‘Astalakshmi.’

He also launched the National Cyber Forensic Laboratory-North East at Lachit Barphukan Police Academy in Dergaon, built at a cost of ₹45 crore, and unveiled multiple infrastructure projects for ITBP, SSB and Assam Rifles, including housing complexes, barracks and hospitals.

Amid chanting of Vedic hymns, Shah offered prayers at a temple inside the Raj Bhawan, performed ‘gau pujan,’ and planted a ‘Sindur’ tree. He was received by Governor Laxmi Prasad Acharya and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
