New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday called for a ruthless and uncompromising approach towards economic offenders, cyber criminals, terrorists, and all fugitives to ensure their swift return to face justice in India.
Speaking at the CBI-organised conference on ‘Extradition of Fugitives – Challenges and Strategies’, Shah emphasized that India must adopt a zero-tolerance policy not just against corruption, crime, and terrorism, but also against those operating from abroad.
He said it was imperative to bring every fugitive under the ambit of Indian law and to establish a clear and effective mechanism for their extradition.
“Whether they are economic offenders, cyber criminals, terrorists, or part of organised crime networks — a ruthless approach must be taken to ensure they face the Indian justice system. The time for this has come,” Shah asserted.
The Home Minister underlined that the Narendra Modi government has implemented foolproof measures to prevent offenders from evading justice.
“Under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, a strong India is advancing — not only securing its borders but also reinforcing the rule of law,” he said.
Highlighting the need for faster legal processes, Shah noted that the reach of justice must always outpace the tactics of criminals. He also urged states to establish at least one international-standard prison to address concerns raised in foreign courts about jail conditions in India, which often delay extradition proceedings.
