Srinagar: The anti-terror operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district entered its sixth day on Wednesday, with security forces continuing their efforts to flush out militants hiding in a dense forest area.

A senior police officer said that all available resources, including drones and helicopters, are being deployed to trace the militants in the rugged terrain.

“The operation is still underway,” the official confirmed, noting that intermittent gunfire continues.

So far, two terrorists have been killed, and at least two security personnel have sustained injuries since the gunfight began on Friday. The encounter erupted after security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the Akhal forest area of south Kashmir, acting on specific intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists.

Following an initial exchange of fire on Friday evening, the operation was paused overnight. However, the cordon was reinforced, and additional troops were deployed.

Gunfire resumed on Saturday morning, during which the two terrorists were neutralised. Authorities have yet to confirm their identities or organizational affiliations.
