Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday intensified its ongoing crackdown on terror operatives across the Jammu region, targeting local terrorists based in Pakistan and their overground workers (OGWs), officials said.
A large-scale search and cordon operation was launched simultaneously across Ramban, Kishtwar, Doda, Kathua, Reasi, Poonch, and Rajouri districts, they added.
The intensified operations follow intelligence inputs suggesting that terrorists hiding in higher reaches are seeking safe shelters in plains for the winter. On Saturday, several suspects were summoned for questioning during a massive anti-terror operation in Doda district.
In Ramban, police launched coordinated searches in Banihal and Gool areas under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police Arun Gupta. The focus was on tracing suspicious movements, verifying antecedents of individuals linked to terrorists operating from Pakistan, and tightening security in vulnerable areas, a police spokesperson said.
Houses of relatives and known associates of Pakistan-based Jammu and Kashmir terrorists and OGWs were thoroughly searched. Multiple premises were inspected to ensure no anti-national or unlawful activities were taking place, the spokesperson said.
The joint operations, conducted by the Police, Army, CRPF, and SOG units in the presence of duty magistrates, were carried out smoothly without causing inconvenience to the public, he added.
“These operations are part of ongoing preventive and intelligence-based measures to maintain peace and stability in the region,” the spokesperson said. “Police remain committed to dismantling anti-national networks and ensuring the safety of all citizens.”
The public has been urged to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and share any information about suspicious activities, with an assurance that informants’ identities will remain confidential.
In Kishtwar, raids were conducted in multiple locations across Kishtwar, Chatroo, and Marwah subdivisions. Similarly, in Doda, security forces raided 25 houses belonging to families with members currently based in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
During the operations, several mobile phones and other materials were seized to gather evidence of possible anti-national activities, officials said.
