JAMMU: While Kishtwar district reeling from a cloudburst that claimed at least 38 lives, other parts of the Jammu region are also facing severe rainfall.

In Rajouri district, two minor children were injured when their house collapsed in Khargala village due to heavy rains and were immediately hospitalised, officials said.

Continuous downpours also caused the residential house of SPO Altaf Hussain Shah in Gali Pindi, Poonch, to collapse, leaving the family in distress. Additionally, five families in Bandi Kama Khan village, Poonch, were relocated after cracks appeared in their homes.

Similar incidents were reported in Udhampur, where a house collapsed, prompting the evacuation of its residents. In Reasi district, the yatra to the Mata Vaishno Devi cave shrine via the Himkoti track was suspended on Thursday due to heavy rains. Pilgrims were advised to follow official instructions and cooperate with on-ground staff.

The incessant rainfall has triggered flash floods in major rivers including the Tawi, Chenab, Ujh, and Suran, causing flooding on roads and in residential areas across multiple districts. In Rajouri, the local river is in full spate after two days of heavy rain, prompting authorities to issue alerts for residents in hilly areas to avoid venturing near riverbanks.

In Udhampur’s Ramnagar tehsil, heavy rains damaged the Kougha–Chigli Pingla road, cutting off five villages and leaving residents stranded. Kathua district’s Khokhayal village was also inundated, with homes and shops waterlogged, disrupting daily life for villagers.

Authorities in affected areas have urged residents to stay away from rivers and drains. Despite the severe rainfall, the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained open for traffic.
