APS Damana Unveils the ‘Shimani Choudhary 10m Shooting Range’ to Foster Precision and Excellence

APS Damana proudly inaugurated the ‘Shimani Choudhary 10M Shooting Range’ within the school premises on 8 April 2025. The newly constructed Shooting Range envisions to honour the Star Shooter and alumna of the School Shimani Choudhary, a Gold Medalist in 24th All India Kumar Surendra Singh Shooting Championship 2022, West Bengal. It also aims to provide the young students with ample opportunities to prove their mettle through Shooting Sports.

Brig Vivek Puri SM, PhD Commander Chenab Brigade and Chairman APS Damana dignified the occasion as the Chief Guest. S.Surinder Singh Sodhi, President JKRA embellished the event as the Guest of Honour. The other dignitaries who added glory to the event were Sh. Sharat Chander (Dy SP) Governing Body Member & CEO JKRA and

Sh. Arun Mansotra,Treasurer JKRA.

The school also had the honour to have the benign presence of Mr. Kuldeep Singh Jamwal, Founder Member & Chairman JKRA.  He is the son of Lieutenant Colonel SDS Jamwal. During his interaction with the Chairman of the school, Mr. Kuldeep Singh Jamwal became quite nostalgic about his father and shared a memorable incident. He recounted, “My father was DAA&QMG Chenab Brigade during the 1971 Operation against Pakistan. I was studying in college at the time and after the war ended, General Zoro Bakshi, GOC Tiger Division organized a lunch for all the officers and their families at a place 9 R Short of Head Marala in Pakistan.  We had a wonderful time at the picnic and in the evening, we had a cup of tea and samosas before returning back to the brigade. “Mr. Kuldeep Singh Jamwal also highlighted the remarkable contributions of his father, who was a true hero of the Zojila Battle on 01 November 1948.  He shared with pride that his father served as the Squadron Commander of Charlie Squadron of the 7th Cavalry, which played a pivotal role in the historic capture of the Zojila Pass.

Besides Shimani Choudhary of Batch 2022-23 added distinction to the event as the Special Guest.   The school alumna, displayed her marksmanship skills at the Shooting Range exuberantly. It is pertinent to mention that the newly constructed Shooting Arena will cater to the robust and progressive holistic standards of the school.

In his address, the Chief Guest congratulated the school for providing the young aspirants with comprehensive training in Shooting Sports. He expressed his firm belief in the triumvirate of practice, consistency and dedication as the keys to unlock the success.

Ms Pushpinder Kaur, Principal APS Damana signified to enhance safe, disciplined and responsible gun handling at the Shooting Range inside the School. She shared her ambitious vision for the school’s future in sports. She stated, “Our goal is to ensure that students strive hard to represent our country at the Olympics and other prestigious global platforms in Shooting.” The event culminated with the high tea for the guests.
