Hyderabad: Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman, who is set to perform in Hyderabad soon, says he is focused on exploring new sounds rather than revisiting his old compositions.
“I don’t have time to go back to old compositions,” Rahman said ahead of his upcoming concert on November 8 at Ramoji Film City, adding that he is more interested in experimenting with fresh ideas and sounds.
Describing the event as “a conversation in sound,” the maestro revealed that the concert has been “carefully arranged for nonstop excitement.” This will be Rahman’s second collaboration with Hyderabad Talkies, marking what he calls a “rhythmic reunion” that also celebrates his journey in Telugu music.
Rahman reflected on his long association with Hyderabad and Telugu cinema:
“I grew up playing for Telugu movies. From my early work in 1993–94 to Ye Maaye Chesave and recent collaborations with Ram Charan, it feels like a full-circle moment. We have many Telugu songs lined up now—it’s going to be an exciting phase.”
Speaking about balancing international acclaim with regional love, Rahman said:
“Music is global—it passes from soul to soul. You never know who’s listening; someone in France could be enjoying Telugu or Tamil music. For me, the freshness, clarity, and emotion in the music matter more than anything else.”
As for what audiences can expect on November 8, Rahman promised “many surprises”, adding that “Hyderabad is going to enjoy it.”
Sainath Goud Malkapuram, founder of Hyderabad Talkies, said:
“It’s an honour to collaborate with two Oscar-winning legends this year—first M.M. Keeravani in March, and now A.R. Rahman.”
