New Delhi: Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on Saturday emphasized the need to curb the tendency of government departments to challenge court orders.
Speaking at a conference of the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) here, he noted that government departments often file appeals even after courts have delivered sound judgments. He observed that, at times, such appeals are initiated by officers seeking to protect themselves when court or CAT rulings question their decisions.
Meghwal added that he frequently receives files in which central departments are planning to appeal well-founded court orders. He also stressed the importance of CAT adopting modern technology, such as e-filing and virtual hearings, to ensure that geographic barriers do not hinder the delivery of justice.
Highlighting the tribunal’s contribution, he praised its role in reducing the case burden on the Supreme Court and high courts.
