Jammu: The administration has enlisted the Army to restore road connectivity in flood-affected areas of Ramban district, Jammu and Kashmir, ensuring the smooth movement of essential supplies and transport services.
“The Deputy Commissioner, along with officers and Army officials, conducted a ground assessment and explored options for the early restoration of connectivity. Given the severity of the situation, the Army has been tasked with urgent intervention,” a senior official said.
A section of the road at Batti was recently washed away by flash floods in the Chenab River, disrupting access to Gool Sub-Division, parts of Tehsil Ramban, and several key national projects, the official added.
Army engineers are now preparing to install a temporary Bailey bridge at the affected site, restoring crucial access to Gool Sub-Division, neighboring villages in Tehsil Ramban, and ongoing national projects.
Ramban Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Alyas Khan emphasized the strategic significance of the Karoal-Maitra-Gool Road, describing it as a lifeline for residents of Gool Sub-Division and surrounding areas.
Authorities highlighted that the road is not only essential for the movement of people and supplies but also serves as a critical corridor for major national initiatives, including the railway line and the Sawalkote hydroelectric project.
The Army has previously constructed a Bailey bridge on the 4th Tawi bridge in Jammu and another at Jangalwar Nallah on the highway, restoring connectivity to Doda and Kishtwar within hours.
