Leh/Jammu:The Indian Army has established a state-of-the-art New Generation Vehicle (NGV) Logistics Hub in Leh to strengthen its operational readiness in the high-altitude region of Ladakh. Satellite hubs are also being planned at key border locations, including Kargil, Tangtse, and Nyoma, along the India–Pakistan and India–China frontiers.
The facility was inaugurated on Thursday by Lieutenant General Hitesh Bhalla, General Officer Commanding of the Fire and Fury Corps. A defence spokesperson described the initiative as a major milestone in improving logistics and maintenance capabilities in extreme terrain.
Designed to tackle the unique challenges of operating NGVs in high-altitude areas — many of which remain cut off for months during winter — the hub features a centralised and integrated system for logistics, equipment maintenance, and spares management. This is expected to significantly enhance turnaround times, spare part availability, and long-term operational sustainability.
“To anchor this initiative, a ‘mother hub’ has been set up in Leh, strategically located at the junction of multiple operational axes and supported by robust air connectivity,” the spokesperson said.
The hub will function as the main centre for major repairs, diagnostics, and warehousing of critical components.
Six leading defence industry partners — Tata Advanced Systems Ltd, Mahindra Defence Systems Ltd, Polaris, Bharat Forge Ltd, JSW Gecko Motors Pvt Ltd, and JCBL Group — will maintain an on-site presence to provide immediate technical assistance, expedite repairs, and streamline warranty support.
