Kupwara: Indian Army personnel stationed at Azmat-e-Hind near the Line of Control (LoC) in Tangdhar celebrated Diwali with local children, spreading joy, laughter, and festive cheer in the remote border region on Sunday.

The Diwali Mahotsav was marked by great enthusiasm and unity as Army personnel and local residents came together to light diyas, exchange sweets, and enjoy cultural performances symbolizing harmony and brotherhood.

A local resident expressed gratitude, saying, “We were invited by the Indian Army to celebrate Diwali at the 104 Brigade. This is the true culture of our country — during Eid, they join us, and now we are here for Diwali. We pray that this festival brings peace and strengthens brotherhood. In these border areas, we live in unity, and the Army always supports us.”

An ex-serviceman also reaffirmed his commitment to the nation, stating, “In Tangdhar, we feel safe because of the Army. Whenever needed, we are ready to serve again.”

The celebration, organized under the Indian Army’s ongoing outreach initiative, aimed to further strengthen the bond between the armed forces and local communities. With snow-capped mountains forming a stunning backdrop, the spirit of Diwali illuminated the hearts of all who attended.

Children participated enthusiastically in cultural programmes featuring folk dances, patriotic songs, and Diwali-themed skits. Soldiers joined the festivities, lighting lamps, and distributing sweets, gifts, and stationery among the children. A special community feast was also organized, allowing everyone to share in the festive spirit.

Adding to the celebration, students from across India sent Diwali greetings to the brave soldiers stationed along the LoC, applauding their courage and dedication during Operation Sindoor and recent counter-terrorism efforts. Their heartfelt messages reflected nationwide appreciation and respect for the Indian Army’s service and sacrifice.
