Jammu: The Army on Monday provided artificial limbs to 24 persons with disabilities along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district, a defence spokesperson said.
Many of the beneficiaries were able to walk and stand after years, he added. A comprehensive medical camp was also held at the Army’s Balnoi base, which witnessed the participation of 179 villagers, including women and children.
The initiative was aimed at supporting residents of Balnoi, Sagra, Dabraj, Mankote and nearby villages, with special focus on persons and children with disabilities. These border areas, due to their remoteness and proximity to the LoC, often struggle to access healthcare and rehabilitation facilities, the spokesperson said.
He noted that the sight of beneficiaries taking confident steps with their new prosthetics filled the camp with hope and joy.
The camp also offered general health check-ups, distribution of essential medicines, and guidance on preventive healthcare. Officials from the Department of Social Welfare attended the event, facilitating documentation for monthly pensions to ensure long-term welfare support.
According to the spokesperson, the collaboration between the Army and the civil administration reflected the spirit of inclusive development in border areas. By reaching out to the most marginalised sections of society, the Balnoi Battalion is not only providing healthcare but also strengthening the bond of trust and harmony with local communities.
He said the distribution of artificial limbs and the medical camp stand as a testament to the Army’s commitment to welfare, humanitarian support, and inclusive growth in the border belt. The Balnoi Battalion has pledged to continue such initiatives in the future to create lasting impacts on the lives of people living along the LoC.
