“A healthy beginning paves the way for a hopeful future.”
Army Public School Damana celebrated World Health Day on 7 April 7 2025, under the theme “Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures,” with a series of engaging and informative activities aimed at promoting the importance of health and well-being. The day began with a special morning assembly led by the students of Class X D, who highlighted the significance of leading a healthy lifestyle.
Following the assembly, the school organized various Inter-Class CCA and Athletic activities to reinforce the importance of healthy living. A standout event was the “What’s in my Tiffin – Protein-Rich Food” competition for Class VI, alongside a Salad-Making Competition for students of Classes VII and VIII. Students eagerly participated in creating nutritious and colourful salads, learning about the benefits of healthy eating and the importance of incorporating fresh vegetables and fruits into their daily meals.
The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Dr. Suman Shan, MBBS, MS, who has extensive experience at Acharya Shree Chander College, ECHS Bhuj, Gangtok and Polyclinic Mamun Cantt. She was invited as the special guest for the occasion.
The pivotal aim of organizing the session was to help Parents understand the importance of maintaining good health. The session was well-attended, with a significant number of fathers also participating. By sharing expert insights and practical advice, the session sought to create deeper awareness about how healthy habits can lead to a brighter and more hopeful future for children.
In her address, Dr. Shan passionately spoke about the age-old wisdom, “A healthy mind resides in a healthy body,” encouraging parents to nurture both their children’s physical and mental well-being. She stressed the importance of providing children with a balanced diet and limiting their exposure to social media. Dr. Shan urged parents to focus on quality time with their children, explaining that such moments would improve mental health and strengthen family bonds.
A key part of Dr. Shan’s session was her discussion on the growing concern of vitamin D deficiency among children. She recommended that parents must encourage their children to spend at least 20 minutes in the sun twice a week for better overall health.
During the session, both parents and children had the opportunity to ask questions. One insightful query came from Ridit Singh, a prodigy of Class VII, who asked how families can engage together without relying on social media. Dr. Shan thoughtfully emphasized the importance of real-world connections and activities that foster communication and bonding outside the digital world.
Mrs. Puspinder Kaur, the Principal of the school, also addressed the gathering, highlighting the significance of World Health Day. She emphasized that true happiness can only be achieved through good health and stressed the need to build a strong and healthy society.
The event concluded with a token of gratitude being presented to Dr. Suman Shan by the Principal and a vote of thanks was proposed by Akansha Gulati and Ridit Rajput from Class VII.
