New Delhi: AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday voiced grave concern over the situation in Ladakh, questioning whether India had won freedom from British rule only to “become slaves to the BJP.”

In a post on X, Kejriwal accused the BJP of being “intoxicated by power,” alleging it was converting states into Union Territories and stripping away constitutional rights.

“What is happening in Ladakh today is extremely worrying. Did our freedom fighters sacrifice their lives so that people would be enslaved by the BJP instead of the British? Bhagat Singh and Chandrashekhar Azad fought for democracy so every Indian could choose their own government. But today, BJP, blinded by its lust for power, is taking away those rights,” he wrote.

Kejriwal further alleged that the BJP was suppressing Ladakh’s voice and had failed to deliver on its promise of granting voting rights. “The people of Ladakh are only demanding their democratic right to vote. But the BJP continues to deny it. When a government silences the voice of the people, it becomes the duty of citizens to speak louder. If democracy is to be saved, we cannot remain silent against this dictatorship. The fight of Ladakh today could become the fight of the entire nation tomorrow,” he warned.

Meanwhile, Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta chaired a high-level security review meeting after protests demanding statehood and Sixth Schedule status turned violent, leading to clashes with police. He called for greater vigilance, stronger coordination among agencies, and proactive measures to maintain peace and order in the Union Territory.
