As India’s Economy Strengthens, Tax Burden Set to Lighten: PM Modi

GREATER NOIDA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that the tax burden on citizens will ease further as India’s economy strengthens, emphasizing that GST reforms are an ongoing process.

Speaking after inaugurating the UP International Trade Show (UPITS) here, Modi noted that recent structural reforms in GST are poised to boost India’s growth trajectory and increase savings for the people.

He recalled that the government introduced GST in 2017 as a major step in reforming the indirect tax system, followed by further enhancements in September this year.

“We are not going to stop here. As the economy grows stronger, the tax burden will continue to decline. With the blessings of the countrymen, GST reforms will keep progressing,” the Prime Minister said.

Modi highlighted government measures such as exempting individuals earning up to Rs 12 lakh annually from income tax and the implementation of GST 2.0 reforms, adding that these initiatives will put more money in the hands of citizens.

The Prime Minister also spoke on India’s growing defence sector, which aims to create a self-reliant ecosystem with all components marked ‘Made in India.’ Production of AK-203 rifles is set to begin soon at a factory in Uttar Pradesh, developed in collaboration with Russia.

He underscored the importance of self-reliance and innovation, urging that every product that can be made in India should indeed be made in India.

Inviting global investment, Modi stressed that despite geopolitical uncertainties, India remains an attractive destination for growth.
