Yasha Mudgal declares open 69th National School Games in Taekwondo at Jammu
J&K off to a strong start as Nasir ul Islam secures medal for hosts
JAMMU: Commissioner Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, Yasha Mudgal formally inaugurated the 69th National School Games in Taekwondo (U-19 Boys) at the Indoor Sports Complex, Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu.
Addressing a large gathering of players and officials, Yasha Mudgal lauded the spirit of young athletes, saying their attitude turns challenges into triumphs through determination and resilience. She highlighted that sports not only promote physical fitness but also play a vital role in shaping mental, moral, and emotional strength—contributing to the all-round development of an individual.


“Sports build bridges of unity and friendship,” she remarked, emphasizing that such national-level events foster camaraderie and mutual understanding among youth from different parts of the country. Extending a warm welcome to all participants, she added, “It gives me immense pleasure, on behalf of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, to host this prestigious tournament.”
The Commissioner Secretary assured the athletes of full support from the administration and organizers to ensure their safety, comfort, and overall well-being. Encouraging them to play with integrity, she said, “Winning is not as important as taking part. I deeply admire your passion and commitment to compete here.”
Earlier, Director General, Youth Services and Sports, Anuradha Gupta, in her welcome address, said that the department had made comprehensive arrangements for the successful conduct of the event, ensuring a well-organized and athlete-friendly environment.
The grand event features 34 teams representing various States, Union Territories, and Organizations from across India, symbolizing unity, teamwork, and competitive spirit. The ceremonial march past by all participating contingents drew admiration and applause from the dignitaries and spectators. Participants also took an oath of sportsmanship, pledging to uphold fair play, discipline, and team spirit.
Meanwhile, Jammu & Kashmir began their campaign in fine style, with Nasir ul Islam defeating his rival from Telangana in the quarterfinals to secure a berth in the semifinals—guaranteeing a medal for the host team.
In other results of the day, NVS defeated Odisha, Bihar outplayed Jharkhand, Telangana beat Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu overcame West Bengal, Assam prevailed over CISCE, Haryana beat Himachal Pradesh, Mizoram defeated Vidya Bharati, CBSE outclassed Maharashtra, Delhi edged past Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh outperformed IPSC, KVS beat Goa, Uttarakhand won against Kerala, and Gujarat triumphed over Rajasthan.
