Jammu, December 10 — The Divisional Commissioner convened a review meeting to examine the Action Taken Report (ATR) on stray animal issues in compliance with directions issued by the Supreme Court of India. The meeting focused on measures adopted by district administrations and municipal bodies to address the challenges posed by stray cattle and dogs in urban and rural areas.
Officials presented updates on steps taken to regulate stray animal populations, including vaccination drives, sterilization programmes, and the establishment of shelters. The Divisional Commissioner emphasized the need for coordinated efforts between civic authorities, veterinary services, and local bodies to ensure effective implementation of the Supreme Court’s directives.
During the meeting, concerns were raised about road safety hazards, public health risks, and damage to crops caused by stray animals. The Divisional Commissioner directed departments to intensify monitoring, strengthen enforcement of existing regulations, and engage community participation in reporting and managing stray animal incidents.
