Srinagar: Authorities in Srinagar have filed six cases against individuals and businesses caught selling rotten meat, violating public health and safety norms, officials said on Friday.

Responding promptly to reports of unhygienic meat sales in the city, Srinagar Police, in coordination with the civil administration and the food safety department, launched a targeted operation to tackle the issue, a police spokesperson stated.

The cases were registered at Lal Bazar, Bemina, Batamaloo, Safakadal, Ram Munshi Bagh, and Zakura police stations. A special flying squad, including officials from the district police, civil administration, and food safety department, has been formed to carry out surprise inspections across the city.

During these inspections, large quantities of rotten meat were seized and destroyed following proper protocol. The spokesperson added that strict legal action will be taken against violators under relevant laws.

Authorities have intensified the crackdown across Kashmir, targeting restaurants and shops breaching food safety and public health regulations. In the past few weeks, over 5,000 kilograms of spoiled meat have been confiscated as part of this drive.
