Automobile exports surge 26% in Q2, driven by record passenger vehicle and two-wheeler shipments

NEW DELHI: India’s automobile exports rose 26% year-on-year in the September quarter, marking the highest-ever shipments of passenger vehicles, two-wheelers, and three-wheelers, according to data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).

Passenger vehicle exports grew 23% to 2,41,554 units in Q2 FY2025, compared to 1,96,196 units in the same quarter last year. Within this category, passenger car exports climbed 20.5% to 1,25,513 units, while utility vehicle shipments jumped 26% to 1,13,374 units. Van exports also registered a 39% increase, reaching 2,667 units.

Maruti Suzuki India led passenger vehicle exports with 2,05,763 units, followed by Hyundai Motor India at 99,540 units.

Two-wheeler exports rose 25% to 12,95,468 units in the July-September period, up from 10,35,997 units a year earlier. Motorcycle exports surged 27% to 11,08,109 units, while scooter exports grew 12% to 1,77,957 units. Moped exports also saw a sharp rise to 9,402 units from 2,028 units in the same period last year.

Commercial vehicle exports increased 22% year-on-year to 24,011 units, and three-wheeler exports recorded an impressive 51% growth, reaching 1,23,480 units.

In total, India exported 16,85,761 vehicles in Q2 FY2025, compared to 13,35,343 units in the corresponding period of last fiscal.

SIAM President Shailesh Chandra said the robust export performance across all categories reflects the growing global acceptance of made-in-India vehicles.
