Kolkata, December 12 — A proposal to build an Ayodhya-style Ram Temple has emerged in West Bengal following a recent dispute involving a local mosque, adding a new dimension to the ongoing tensions in the area.
The proposal was put forward by a local group that claimed the temple would serve as a symbol of “cultural assertion” in response to the controversy. The group said it intends to approach authorities with a formal request for land and necessary permissions.
The development comes days after a row erupted over the construction and use of a mosque structure in the region, prompting protests and counter‑protests by different community groups. Local administration has been monitoring the situation and has urged all sides to maintain peace.
Officials said no formal application for the proposed temple has been received so far, and any such request would be examined as per legal and administrative procedures. They added that steps are being taken to prevent escalation and ensure law and order.
Community leaders have appealed for restraint, emphasising the need to avoid actions that could inflame tensions. Police presence has been strengthened in the area as a precautionary measure.
The situation remains under watch, with authorities calling for dialogue and cooperation to maintain harmony.
