SRINAGAR: The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) reopened the Bandipora-Gurez road in north Kashmir on Sunday after a night-long operation to clear stranded vehicles, officials said. The road had been blocked by more than a dozen landslides triggered by heavy rains on late Saturday evening, leaving numerous passenger vehicles stuck on both sides.
The rescue and clearance operation was conducted by the 56 Road Construction Company and the 32nd Border Roads Task Force (BRTF), who worked with heavy machinery and manpower from 8 pm to 4 am. Dozens of vehicles and passengers were safely evacuated during the eight-hour operation.
Despite the reopening, traffic on the road remained suspended as a precaution due to falling stones from hillocks along several stretches.
