Anantnag: A truck driver was killed on Monday morning after his vehicle overturned in the Laripora area of Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Officials said the mishap took place when a tipper truck (registration number JK01AJ-7136) went out of control and overturned at Laripora. The impact was severe, trapping the driver under the vehicle.
Locals and police rushed to the spot and managed to pull the driver from the wreckage. However, he succumbed to his injuries while being taken to the hospital.
The deceased has been identified as Mehrajuddin Bhat, son of Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, a resident of Baramulla district.
Police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated proceedings under relevant sections of law. The vehicle was later removed from the spot to restore traffic movement in the area.
Residents said the road stretch where the accident occurred is narrow and often slippery in the early hours, posing a danger to motorists. They urged authorities to take necessary safety measures to prevent such accidents in the tourist zone.
The body was handed over to the family after completion of medico-legal formalities.
