Baramulla observes ‘International Day of Persons with Disabilities’

BARAMULLA: The Department of Social Welfare, Baramulla, organized a special event to commemorate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) under the theme ‘Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future.’

The event was attended by the Chief Planning Officer, District Social Welfare Officer, Assistant Regional Transport Officer, Dy Chief Education Officer, District Health Officer and other officers from various departments besides specially-abled individuals.

The event witnessed an awareness session on government welfare schemes, conducted by an Officer from the Employment Department. He spoke about the Vishwakarma, Mumkin and Mission Youth schemes which offer vital support for livelihood generation, skill development and financial assistance for persons with disabilities.

The officer urged the participants to take full advantage of these schemes to secure stable employment and improve their economic standing.

Additionally, various participants from the specially-abled community shared their success stories, inspiring others with their achievements. These individuals highlighted how they overcame challenges, utilized available resources, and achieved success in different fields. Their stories were met with admiration and applause, motivating others to pursue their goals and dreams despite obstacles.

CPO, DSWO and ARTO spoke at length on the theme, besides awareness was raised on various welfare schemes available for persons with disabilities, such as financial support, skill development, and the distribution of assistive devices.

The beneficiaries were encouraged to utilize these resources to enhance their livelihoods and achieve greater independence.

The event also featured a grievance redressal session, allowing persons with disabilities to voice their concerns and receive immediate attention from district officials. The administration assured the public that their issues would be promptly addressed, ensuring better accessibility and services.

Children with special abilities showcased their talents through cultural performances, which received heartfelt appreciation from the audience. The performances emphasized their leadership, creativity and potential.

The event concluded with a felicitation ceremony, honoring individuals and organizations that have significantly contributed to the welfare of persons with disabilities.
