New Delhi: BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India will officially raise the issue of the delayed handover of the 2025 Men’s T20 Asia Cup trophy at the upcoming ICC quarterly meeting in Dubai, scheduled from November 4 to 7.
“I’ve made BCCI’s stance clear — we’ll wait another two to three days. If the trophy is still not returned, we’ll bring up the matter at the ICC meeting starting November 4. We have already written to the ACC about this 10 days ago. If there’s no resolution, we’ll escalate it to the ICC, which is the highest authority in cricket,” Saikia told IANS on Saturday.
The dispute stems from India’s refusal to accept the Asia Cup trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chairman and Pakistan Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi after their five-wicket win over Salman Agha’s Pakistan-led side in the final at the Dubai International Stadium on September 28.
The victory marked India’s ninth Asia Cup title. However, cross-border tensions led the Suryakumar Yadav-led side to decline receiving the trophy and winner’s medals from Naqvi, who also heads the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). As a result, the team celebrated its championship without the physical trophy or medals.
Reports last month indicated that Naqvi planned to hand over the trophy on November 10. He has reportedly proposed hosting a special event in Dubai this month to formally present the trophy to the Indian team, following a series of letters exchanged between the ACC and the BCCI.
Despite BCCI’s formal communication to the ACC seeking resolution, the matter remains unresolved. Some reports claim that Naqvi has moved the trophy from the ACC headquarters to an undisclosed location, adding a fresh twist to the ongoing standoff.
