Srinagar: Authorities at the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, have confirmed the sighting of a bear inside the campus premises. The incident, which occurred late on Monday evening, was first detected through CCTV footage showing the animal moving across the institute grounds.
Following the alert, the Wildlife Department dispatched a response team to the site and deployed a trap to capture the bear safely. Officials stated that precautionary measures have been activated, including increased patrolling by security personnel and inspections of hostel and residential zones within the campus.
Director SKIMS, Prof. M. Ashraf Ganie, personally reviewed the situation and directed staff to maintain strict vigilance, especially in less-frequented areas. The administration has urged students and employees to remain cautious and avoid isolated stretches until the animal is captured.
The sighting has caused concern among staff, patients, and residents in the vicinity, with authorities emphasizing that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure safety. Surveillance has been intensified, and the Wildlife Department is monitoring the trap and surrounding areas closely.
