Registrar delivers keynote lecture on Mental Health at BGSBU
RAJOURI: To commemorate World Mental Health Day, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) organized an open lecture on the theme “Mental Health: Building Resilience and Well-being.”
The event sought to raise awareness, encourage open dialogue, and promote a supportive atmosphere for emotional wellness among students and faculty.
Registrar Abhishek Sharma delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the growing importance of mental health in academic environments. He stressed that mental health should be treated with the same seriousness as physical health and highlighted the significance of early detection of symptoms such as prolonged stress, anxiety, mood changes, and social withdrawal. Early intervention, he noted, can play a pivotal role in ensuring recovery and resilience.
During his address, Sharma referred to the Johari Window model, illustrating how self-awareness and constructive feedback can help individuals understand their emotions, behavior, and areas for personal development. He encouraged students to embrace feedback, build trust, and express their feelings openly—practices that strengthen emotional intelligence and interpersonal relationships, vital for overall well-being.
He also urged faculty members to create an empathetic and inclusive learning environment, emphasizing the need for structured feedback mechanisms and accessible mental health support systems within the university.
Students from various departments participated actively in the session. The presence of heads of departments and senior faculty members reflected BGSBU’s commitment to fostering a culture of care, openness, and mental well-being on campus.
The event concluded with an engaging interactive session, where students shared insights on resilience, coping strategies, and the importance of seeking timely support.
