MALDA, Dec 3 : West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday alleged that Union Home Minister Amit Shah was behind the introduction of the State Industrial Regulatory (SIR) policy in Bengal, describing it as a political ploy. She claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had dug its own grave by rushing the measure without considering its impact on the people.

Addressing a public meeting, Mamata Banerjee said the SIR initiative was imposed hurriedly and without consultation, leading to widespread opposition across the state. She accused the BJP of attempting to use the policy as a tool to gain political advantage but insisted that the move had backfired.

The Chief Minister emphasised that Bengal’s people would not accept policies that undermine their rights or livelihood. She reiterated that her government would continue to resist measures that she described as anti-people and detrimental to the state’s interests.

Mamata Banerjee’s remarks come amid ongoing protests and debates over the SIR policy, which has drawn criticism from various quarters. The controversy has added to political tensions in Bengal, with the ruling Trinamool Congress and the BJP trading accusations over governance and policy decisions.

The issue is expected to remain a focal point in the state’s political discourse, with both parties preparing to leverage it in the run-up to future electoral battles.
