Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir BJP has welcomed the takeover of over 200 schools affiliated with the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), calling it a decisive step to safeguard the future of thousands of students in the Valley.

BJP vice president and former education minister Priya Sethi said JeI and its affiliate, the Falah-e-Aam Trust (FAT), had misused education to spread radicalisation rather than knowledge. “By seizing control of these schools, the government has broken this vicious cycle and secured the academic future of thousands of innocent students,” she said in a statement.

Sethi noted that the Ministry of Home Affairs had rightly banned JeI for its anti-national agenda, and the recent takeover of 215 FAT-run schools was essential to end the “dangerous misuse of education.” She credited the move to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying it ensures education in J&K remains free from radical influence.

“Despite being projected as a socio-religious body, JeI actively spread separatist ideology. FAT schools indoctrinated children instead of offering modern and progressive education,” she said, adding that such institutions betrayed the trust of society by creating generations alienated from mainstream growth.

Praising the government’s action, Sethi said direct control of these schools guarantees students will no longer be exploited for separatist agendas. “Modi has given a clear message that education will not be allowed to become a tool of separatism. Under his leadership, schools will now nurture talent, unity, and nation-building,” she said.

Assuring parents of accountability and quality under government supervision, she added: “Our children will now study in an environment of positivity and patriotism, free from the shadow of radical ideology. The BJP remains committed to securing the future of Kashmiri youth and building a peaceful, developed Jammu and Kashmir.”
