Leh: The Border Roads Organisation’s (BRO) ‘Project Himank’ has once again etched its name in history by surpassing its own Guinness World Record for the highest motorable road.

The team successfully reached Mig La Pass, situated at an altitude of 19,400 feet along the Likaru–Mig La–Fukche road in Leh district, surpassing the previous record held by Umling La at 19,024 feet, the BRO stated.

This milestone was achieved on Wednesday when the BRO team, led by Project Himank’s Chief Engineer Brigadier Vishal Srivastava, reached Mig La Pass, proudly hoisting the National and BRO flags at this extraordinary height.

The newly constructed route from Likaru to Mig La Pass, extending further to Fukche village, holds immense strategic and infrastructural significance. It forms the third crucial axis connecting the Hanle sector to the border village of Fukche near the Indo-China frontier.

The BRO has played a pivotal role in building some of the world’s highest motorable passes, having constructed 11 of the 14 highest passes globally, the statement highlighted.

Beyond its strategic value, Mig La Pass is expected to significantly boost tourism in Ladakh. The spectacular views of the Indus Valley and the thrilling journey to the pass promise visitors a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. While the route presents formidable challenges, it rewards travelers with unmatched natural beauty and excitement.

This achievement stands as a testament to the BRO’s engineering excellence, unwavering dedication, and indomitable spirit, as it continues to push the limits of road construction in some of the world’s most challenging terrains.
